Vehicle Fire on Jonesboro Road – September 5, 2011

At 07:17, Abingdon Fire was dispatched to an accident in the 100 Block of Jonesboro Road. A passenger vehicle was traveling south on Jonesboro, ran off the road, and became wedged between a parked tractor trailer and a telephone company pole in front of a convivence store. The single occupant in the vehicle was removed from the vehicle after a side window was broken. Victim sustained minor injuries. Utility crews had to stabilize the telephone pole due to it being broken. Fire units stood by until the car was removed from around the pole. Engine 201, Brush 208, Utility 207, and Command 210 responded along with Washington County Life Saving Crew and Abingdon Police. Utility crews from Embarq, American Electric Power, and Star Contractors were also on the scene replacing the pole.
