At 22:30, Abingdon Fire was dispatched to a vehicle fire on Interstate 81 at the 13.6 mile marker in the south bound lane. The vehicle was being towed by a rental box truck using a car dolly. Traffic was blocked for several minutes while the fire was extinguished. Members of the department were able to save many of the occupant’s belongings from the vehicle due to the fire being contained to the engine compartment. Engine 201, Tanker 202, Utility 207, Command 209 and Command 210 responded along with Virginia State Police, Washington County Sheriffs’ Department, and the Washington County Life Saving Crew.
