On Friday, October 13, Abingdon Fire was alerted to assist Brumley Gap Fire Department in reference to and motor vehicle accident involving a pick-up truck that had driven into an unoccupied house at the intersection of Mendota Road and Roebuck Road. Extrication tools were needed to remove the driver. When the call was received, Rescue Engine 205 responded from a previous incident on Interstate 81 near Exit 14. Along with 205, Battalion 209, Utility 210 and units from Brumley Gap Fire, Goodson-Kinderhook Fire/Rescue, Valley Rescue, and Washington County Life Saving Crew responded. Once the driver was extricated the vehicle was removed from the structure by a wrecker. The injuries sustained by the subject required the services of Wings Air Rescue, which landed in a field behind the house. Virginia State Police investigated the crash.
