At 18:16, Abingdon Fire was alerted to a single vehicle accident at the 20.5 mile marker in the median. The single occupant of a pickup truck veered off the roadway and struck a tree resulting in a fatality. Engine 201, Utility 207 and Brush 208 responded along with units from the Washington County Life Saving Crew. VA State Police is investigation the accident.
