At 11:33, Abingdon Fire was alerted to respond for Washington County Fire Rescue to a 2-vehicle accident at the 11 Mile Marker on the Southbound lane of Interstate 81. The driver of the car had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken by Virginia State Police Med-Flight to Bristol Regional Medical Center. Rescue Engine 205 and Rescue Engine 206 responded along with the Washington County Life Saving Crew, Virginia State Police and Virginia Department of Transportation.
