At 08:52, Abingdon Fire was dispatched to a two vehicle accident at the 14.2 mile marker in the Northbound passing lane on Interstate 81. Upon arrival, a motorcycle and a car were involved with heavy damage to the rear of the car. The motorcycle operator was transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital with minor injuries by the Washington County Life Saving Crew. Chief 201, Engine 204, Battalion 209 and Utility 210 responded along with units from the Washington County Life Saving Crew, Virginia State Police, Virginia Department of Transportation and Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Traffic had been slowed on the Interstate due to road construction and eclipse traffic returning home.
