Vehicle Accident Involving State Police Vehicle – October 6, 2021

At 2058, Abingdon Fire was dispatched to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Cummings Street and Fairway Drive. A state police cruiser was attempting to pass a vehicle while responding to a call. A sedan was traveling south on Cummings Street and was turning left when it was struck by the state police vehicle. There were no injuries, but the roadway was affected while the investigation was conducted by the Virginia State Police supervisors. Abingdon Police cannot investigate accidents involving state -owned vehicles. Rescue Engine 205, Chief 201, Chief 211, and Utility 210 responded along with units of the Washington County Life Saving Crew and Virginia State Police. After roadway cleanup was completed by fire personnel, the road was reopened, and fire units returned to station.
