At 13:20, Abingdon Fire Department was dispatched to a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Hillman Highway and Tunnel Street. The vehicle struck the guardrail on the right side of Hillman Highway at the intersection. There were four occupants in the vehicle, and all were treated by units of the Washington County Life Saving Crew. Engine 201, Brush 207, and Command 210 responded along with units 50, 56, and 54 of the Life Saving Crew. Abingdon Police Department investigated the crash. Washington County Sheriffs’ Department assisted in traffic control. The Abingdon Public Works Department was called in to insure all the guard rail parts were moved safely off the roadway and to set up safety cones and Comcast Cable Company was notified to ensure their lines were ok. All fire units were cleared and back in the station at 14:29.
