At 23:35, Abingdon Fire was advised of an accident at Cummings and Main Streets. This accident involved two Washington County Sheriff’s Office vehicles. Both vehicles were responding to a domestic call off of Route 700. The vehicles were coming from different directions and hit in the intersection. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and both drivers were transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital by Washington County Life Saving Crew. A street light pole was knocked down and this interrupted electrical power along Main Street. Cleanup was extensive with vehicle liquids and debris all along the streets. Chief 201, Chief 202, Rescue Engine 205, Battalion 209 and Utility 210 responded along with the Washington County Life Saving Crew, Abingdon Police Department, Appalachian Power Company and Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Units cleared a few minutes after 01:00.
