At 12:00, Abingdon Fire was alerted to an accident on the Exit 19 Interstate 81 southbound bridge. Two pickup trucks were involved, with one truck hanging over the edge of the bridge. Rescue Engine 205, Rescue Engine 206, Brush 208, and Battalion 209 responded along with units of the Washington County Life Saving Crew and the Virginia State Police. Due to the location of the accident, traffic was delayed for about an hour at this interchange. All fire units cleared and were back at the station by 13:16.
