At 0352, Abingdon Fire was alerted to an accident on Interstate 81 in the northbound lane near Exit 14. Two tractor trailers collided, blocking both northbound lanes. The drivers were transported to Bristol Regional Hospital and Johnston Memorial Hospital. A lot of the product that was being hauled was spilled on the roadway. This required a massive cleanup effort. Chief 201, Battalion 209, Rescue Engine 205, and Utility 210 responded along with units of the Washington County Life Saving Crew, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Virginia State Police, VA Department of Transportation. Abingdon Collision and Towing was responsible for removing the trucks and the cleanup work.
