Two Single Vehicle Accidents Within Hours on the Intersection of Vance Mill Road and Cummings Street – July 17, 2017

At 17:59, the first accident occurred at the intersection of Cummings Street and Vance’s Mill Road. A pickup truck veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole; breaking it into several pieces. This caused power outages within several areas of Abingdon. The driver was removed from the truck and was airlifted by MedFlight to Bristol Regional Medical Center. Rescue Engine 205, Brush 208, Battalion 209 and Utility 210 responded along with units from the Washington County Life Saving Crew and Abingdon Police.

The second accident occurred at 19:42 on Green Spring Road. The single vehicle accident occurred when an SUV ran onto the bank while traveling North toward Abingdon and flipped. The vehicle landed on its wheels and the driver was not injured. Chief 201, Rescue Engine 205 and Battalion 209 responded along with units from the Washington County Life Saving Crew and Virginia State Police.
