At 12:51, Abingdon Fire was alerted to an accident involving a tractor-trailer on Jonesboro Road just past the entrance to Foxfire Subdivision. Upon arrival the roadway was observed to be completely closed by the tractor-trailer. The truck ran into the ditch on the right side of the road, corrected, and then ran off the left side, leaving the left side of the trailer dangling in the air. The driver was not injured, and the cargo was non-flammable gas. Rescue Engine 205 and Utility 210 responded along with the Washington County Life Saving Crew and Virginia State Police. A local wrecker service spent several hours removing the wreck from the roadway. The roadway was reopened around 15:30.
