At 06:52, Abingdon Fire was alerted to a tractor-trailer accident at the 19.1 Mile Marker in the Southbound lane of Interstate 81. The truck was headed Northbound and ran into the median ending up in the Southbound lane. The truck blocked both Southbound lanes of traffic. He was hauling coils of wire and fortunately the trailer stayed intact. There were no injuries. Chief 202, Rescue Engine 205 and Utility 210 responded along with units from the Virginia State Police, Washington County Life Saving Crew and Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
