Tractor-Trailer Accident on Interstate 81 – May 13, 2010

At 00:54, Abingdon Fire was alerted to an accident on Interstate 81 at the 19.2 mile marker. It was a single vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer that ran off the southbound lane into the median and turned up on its side. The truck was hauling salt in bulk form. The driver of the truck was able to get out with very minor injuries. Abingdon Fire personnel cleaned up a small fluid leak and stood by at the scene until the tractor and the trailer were up righted. Units returned to the station about 05:30. Washington County Life Saving Crew treated the driver and the Virginia State Police investigated the accident. Engine 201, Tanker 202, Utility 207, Command 209 and Command 210 responded.
