Town Park Gazebo Catches Fire – July 1, 2012

At 10:38, Abingdon Fire was called to the Town Park across from the Abingdon Post Office for a fire in the Gazebo. When some fire members arrived in personal vehicles, the fire was consuming the rear of the structure, A portable extinguisher was used to knock down the flames until the Engine arrived. After the fire was extinguished, some of the flooring was cut away to check for hot spots. Engine 204, Tanker 202, and Utility 207 responded along with Abingdon Police Units. The fire was believed to have started in the mulch surrounding the structure, with the possibility of a discarded cigarette as the ignition source.
