Structure Fire on Watauga Road – July 15, 2018

At 12:25, Abingdon Fire and Meadowview Fire were alerted to a structure fire in the 25000 Block of Watauga Road. Upon arrival a barn was observed fully involved and pretty well on the ground. In addition to the barn, some adjacent structures suffered heat damage. A Town of Abingdon sewer pump station located next to the barn suffered structural damage to the roof and heat damage to the siding. An adjacent apartment building also suffered damage to the siding. Several witnesses reported hearing an explosion prior to the fire. No cause has been determined and it is still being investigated. Engine 204, Rescue Engine 206, Tanker 207, Utility 210, and Rehab Trailer 1 responded along with three units from the Meadowview Fire Department and a Tanker from Damascus Fire Department. Washington County Life Saving Crew and the Town of Abingdon Sewer Department also responded.
