Structure Fire on Vance Mill Road – July 31, 2012

At 16:21, Abingdon Fire was dispatched to a report of smoke in the Vance’s Mill area. The caller believed that it was a brush fire. Upon arrival with Brush 208, it was discovered to be a structure fire at the Abingdon Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. The building was used to house maintenance equipment for the Plant. Additional units were requested from the Fire Station. It is believed that the fire started in a lawn tractor that had just been put in the building a few minutes prior to the report of the fire. The fire is being investigated by the Abingdon Police Department to make sure how the fire actually started. Engine 204, Tanker 202, Brush 208, and Command 209 responded to the call along with units from the Washington County Life Saving Crew and Abingdon Police Department.
