Structure Fire on Roberta Street – October 30, 2012

At 05:14, Abingdon Fire was dispatched to a structure fire in the 300 Block of Roberta Street. Smoke was reported to be coming from the roof. Upon further inspection, the source of the smoke was isolated to an interior room. Ceiling tiles were removed to discover a wire had caught a wooden furring strip on fire. The power was cut off and a saw was brought in to cut a section of the board out. We were fortunate that the damage was very minor considering the weather conditions that included snow and high winds. Engine 204, Utility 207, Command 209 and Command 210 responded along with units of the Washington County Life Saving Crew and Abingdon Police.
