At 06:31, Abingdon Fire was alerted to a structure fire in the 15000 Block of Porterfield Highway. Chief 201, Tower 203, Engine 204 and Battalion 209 responded along with the Washington County Life Saving Crew and Washington County Fire/Rescue. Damage was extensive to the basement of the structure. Attached is the press release from the Town of Abingdon:
On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at approximately 6:30AM, the Abingdon Fire Department was dispatched to the 15000 block of Porterfield Highway in reference to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, the structure was filled with smoke throughout the first floor, and the two (2) occupants were able to escape without injury. The fire was contained to the one structure and did not spread to any additional structures. The residence has extensive fire and smoke damage to the basement area, and the occupants are being cared for by the American Red Cross.
