On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 06:21, Abingdon Fire Department was dispatched to the 200 block of Highland Street in reference to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, an accessory structure (building/shed) adjacent to the residence was engulfed and had spread to the exterior attic area of the residence. The accessory building is a total loss and the exterior wall covering on the side of the residence is destroyed. The occupants of the residence were able to escape without injury and they are being cared for by the American Red Cross. Units from the Abingdon Fire Department, Abingdon Police Department, Meadowview Fire Department, Washington County Fire and Rescue, and the Washington County Life Saving Crew responded to the scene. The fire department performed a complete overhaul on the structure. At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
