At 12:09, Abingdon Fire responded to a report of smoke in a house in the 400 block of Spring Street. After searching the structure, a plastic trash can was found to have been on fire. It appears that an ash tray or cigarette was placed in the can. The fire had gotten hot enough to melt the bottom of the plastic container to the carpet. Command 209, Engine 204 and Tanker 202 responded along with units of the Washington County Life Saving Crew.
