Single Vehicle Accident on West Main Street – July 13, 2011

At 21:20, Abingdon Fire was dispatched to a single vehicle accident in the 700 block of West Main Street. The SUV hit a power pole head on. The pole was cracked and will need to be replaced. The vehicle also cut a guy wire to the power pole, and this caused a phone line that was strung across the street to sag, making it hard for taller vehicles to pass under the line. The single occupant of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated by members of the Washington County Life Saving Crew. Engine 201, Utility 207, Brush 208, Command 209 and Command 210 responded along with Abingdon Police. Appalachian Power Company and Century Link representatives were on scene to evaluate the damage.
