At 17:08, Abingdon Fire was alerted to a single vehicle accident on Interstate 81 near the 18 mile marker (Virginia Creeper Trail Bridge). Upon arrival, a large section of the guardrail was blocking the Southbound passing lane. Brush 208 was requested to respond to use the winch to pull the guardrail from the passing lane. The vehicle was traveling Southbound, hit the guardrail, and came to rest in the median. Two occupants in the overturned SUV were both transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital. Chief 201, Rescue Engine 205, Rescue Engine 206, Brush 208, and Battalion 209 responded along with units from the Washington County Life Saving Crew, Abingdon Ambulance Service, Virginia Department of Transportation, and Virginia State Police.
