At 16:56, Abingdon Fire was dispatched to a vehicle verses house accident at the Intersection of Jonesboro Road and Essex Drive. The small sedan was headed toward Abingdon on Jonesboro Road, veered off the right side of the roadway, ran over the Westwood Subdivision sign, continued across Essex Drive into a yard, under a tree, and into a house. The single occupant was not injured in the accident but was detained by units of the Virginia State Police. Engine 201, Utility 207, Brush 206, Command 209 and Command 210 responded along with units of the Washington County Life Saving Crew, Abingdon Police, and Washington County Sheriffs’ Department. The vehicle was removed from the structure and Abingdon Fire personnel checked the interior of the structure for hazards. The hole left in the side of the house was secured with plywood until repairs can be made by a contractor.
