At 19:50, Abingdon Fire was dispatched at a possible vehicle accident in the curb on Baugh Lane. Upon arrival, no vehicle accident was found, but a power pole had broken off at the base. This was a major transmission line that supplied most of eastern Abingdon. Abingdon Fire and Police detoured traffic thru Smartview Drive until Abingdon Public Works brought in barricades and detour signs. Appalachian Power advised this would take many hours to repair the lines. Engine 201, Brush 208, and Support 206 responded along with WCLSC 58, Abingdon Police, and Abingdon Public Works. Fire units cleared at 21:36.
