At 1357, Abingdon Fire was alerted to an accident in the 18000 block of Wyndale Road. A large dump truck was headed east toward Abingdon when it appeared to have veered off the right side of the roadway and overcorrected causing it to overturn in a field. The tandem truck was hauling chicken waste from a local egg producer. The driver had to be extricated from the cab of the truck using hydraulic tools from our rescue truck. Patient was airlifted to Bristol Regional Medical Center by MedFlight. Chief 201, Utility 212, Rescue Engine 205, Utility 210, and Brush 208 responded along with units of the Washington County Life Saving Crew, Virginia Department of Transportation, and Virginia State Police. Two local heavy wrecker firms were used to remove the truck.
