At 08:28, Abingdon Fire was alerted to a multi-vehicle accident in the Northbound lane at the 20 mile marker of Interstate 81. Three cars and a pickup truck were involved. It was determined that a tractor trailer had either stopped or slowed down to a very slow speed and the vehicles had to brake quickly to avoid hitting the truck. The tractor trailer continued and left the Interstate at Exit 24. He hit another truck in the Love’s Travel Center and that is when it was determined that he was connected to the accident at the 20 MM. Chief 201, Rescue Engine 205, and Utility 210 responded along with units from the Washington County Life Saving Crew and Virginia State Police.
