Report from Bristol Herald Courier

A multi-vehicle wreck that sent four people to the hospital is under investigation by the Virginia State Police.

According to a press release, VSP Trooper W.E. Harrison responded to a three vehicle crash at the intersection of Rte 19 and Elementary Drive on Monday afternoon.

When he arrived, he spoke to witnesses of the wreck who said a tractor-trailer, driven by 64-year-old Stanley Guest, was traveling south on Route 19 and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection and struck a Chevrolet Malibu.

The Malibu was heading north and had the green light to make a left turn. It was going through the intersection when it was hit by the tractor-trailer. The impact caused the vehicle to spin around and hit a SUV.

A 22-year-old Washington County woman was driving the Malibu. She was flown to Bristol Regional medical Center for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries. An adult male passenger in the Malibu was flown to Bristol Regional for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Another adult passenger was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Two juvenile passengers were not injured in the crash.

The driver of the Buick was treated and released from Johnston Memorial and two juvenile passengers in that vehicle were not injured.

Guest was transported to Johnston Memorial and treated for minor injuries. He was charged with failure to obey a traffic signal.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and assisted state police. The crash remains under investigation.
