At 16:13, Abingdon Fire was dispatched for Washington County Fire Rescue to an accident at the Exit 13 area of Northbound Interstate 81. Upon arrival, there were 6 cars involved along with a tractor-trailer. Several occupants of the vehicles were either treated on scene or transported to area hospitals. Chief 201, Rescue Engine 205 and Utility 210 responded along with units from the Washington County Life Saving Crew, Bristol Life Saving Crew, Virginia State Police, Washington County Sheriff’s Department Animal Control and Virginia Department of Transportation. After an extensive cleanup and several wrecker services dispatched to remove the vehicles, traffic lanes were reopened.
