Fatal Vehicle Crash – September 7, 2010

At 23:53, Abingdon Fire was dispatched to a report of a vehicle in a creek off Porterfield Highway. As units arrived, a full size 4-door GMC pickup was seen under a pile of wood. The subject was headed southbound, ran off the roadway, and hit a bridge to a house that was located across the creek. Impact from the crash moved a steel and wood bridge several feet downstream. Abingdon Fire used extraction tools to remove the top of the truck and remove the subject from the vehicle. Washington County Life Saving Crew, VA State Police, and Washington County Sheriffs’ Department were also on the scene. Rescue Engine 201, Utility 207, Brush 208, Command 209 and Command 210 responded. Abingdon Fire Department sends our condolences to the family of the victim.
