At 02:31, Abingdon Fire was alerted to an accident at the intersection of Porterfield Highway and Black Hollow Road. Upon arrival, units found a passenger car had pulled out from Black Hollow Road into the path of a Southbound tractor-trailer on Porterfield Highway. The vehicle was struck in the drivers side and pushed several feet down the highway. The single occupant of the passenger car had to be extricated from the vehicle. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Bristol Regional Medical Center. Chief 201, Rescue Engine 205, Rescue Engine 206 and Battalion 209 responded along with units from the Washington County Life Saving Crew, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police and Virginia State Police Med-Flight.
