At 16:44, Abingdon Fire was alerted to a barn fire in the 17000 block of Jeb Stuart Highway. Due to many members assisting in the race in Bristol, mutual aid assistance was requested from the Damascus Fire Department. Upon arrival, it was determined to be a hay storage shed. There were about 30 rolls of hay in the shed that were destroyed. It was determined that 2 small kids accidentally started the fire with a lighter. The owner of the shed requested that we allow the fire to continue to burn to allow easier cleanup.
