Abingdon Fire took Tower 203 and our American Flag to the Interstate 81 Exit 22 Bridge to honor the processional motorcade of US Army SSG Ryan Knauss, whose remains were being taken to Arlington National Cemetery in Washington.

Abingdon Fire Department conducted training on water relays and flow from the Tower using different sizes of hose and nozzles. The training was conducted by Assistant Chief Estes. A good turnout was present for this training.

With the haze in the air from the forest fires out West, members started at 0700 testing the 5" hose on Tower 203 and Engine 204.

Utility 210 has been placed back in service after being involved in a traffic accident (not our member's fault and there were no injuries). Front end damage was repaired and unit went back in service on 04/23.

Samantha Fields was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant today. Samantha has been with the department for over 11 years and becomes the first female line officer in the history of the Abingdon Fire Department.

Fire Chief John McCormick announced today that Deputy Chief Tim Estes, Sr. will be promoted to Assistant Fire Chief and Lieutenant Ben Mullins will be promoted to Deputy Chief. This change for the Department will become effective 07/20.

We had our flat bed aluminum trailer stolen from the station. It was a single axle trailer that we used to transport UTV 212, to haul wet and dirty fire hose from a fire scene to the station for cleaning, and general hauling of supplies for the Station.

Work continues on removal of the wrap on the donated trailer. Progress is slow, but is being made. The trailer was exposed to the outside elements and the wrap appears to be baked on. Work continues........
