| Car Verses Train Accident |
Thu. Jul 1st 2010
At 14:50, Abingdon Fire was alerted to a vehicle being hit by a train at the intersection of Pecan and A Streets. The Volvo sedan was traveling north on Pecan and was struck by a Norfolk and Southern freight train. The vehicle was spun around and ended up in the ditch line on the south side of the railroad tracks. Emergency crews were forced to use the Cummings Street Bridge to access the accident scene since the stopped train had the Pecan, Deadmore, and Trigg Street Crossings blocked. There was one occupant in the vehicle and she was treated and transported by the Washington County Life Saving Crew to Johnston Memorial Hospital. Abingdon Police and Norfolk and Southern Railroad Police investigated the accident. Engine 201, Tanker 202, Utility 207, and Command 209 responded.
