Abingdon Fire responded to a structure fire in the 18000 block of Lee Highway. Upon arrival, there was heavy fire coming from the structure. A total of two adults and five children lived in the structure, which was totally destroyed. Chief 202, Tower 203, Tanker 207 and Utility 210 responded along with units of the Washington County Fire Rescue, Goodson-Kinderhook Fire Rescue, Washington County Life Saving Crew, and Bristol VA Fire Department. The Red Cross was called to assist in housing for the family. Lee Highway was closed to traffic during the fire by VA State Police, Washington County Sheriff's Department and VA Department of Transportation to allow supply line hose to be laid out in the roadway. One firefighter did have a medical issue and was transported by EMS. No additional injuries were reported.

The Town of Abingdon Fire Department uses the KEYSECURE master key security system to control the KNOX-BOX master key. The KEYSECURE master key security system provides accountability with an audit trail giving the date, time and user ID for each key release.
Building entrance keys, access cards and floor plans can be stored in the high-security KNOX-BOX mounted near the building entrance. The KNOX-BOX is purchased by the property owner and is keyed to a single master key controlled by the Town of Abingdon Fire Department.
