Spoon Gap Road
On Sunday, August 1, 2021, at approximately 4:41 AM, the Abingdon Fire Department was dispatched to the 19000 block of Spoon Gap Road in reference to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, heavy fire was observed coming from the single-family dwelling. The two occupants were able to escape. Three vehicles, parked outside the structure, also received significant fire damage. The home was deemed a total loss and the American Red Cross has been notified to assist the occupants.
Units from the Abingdon Fire Department, Green Spring Fire Department, Washington County, VA Life Saving Crew, and Washington County, VA Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
One Firefighter was transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital for a non-life-threatening injury received due to a fall.

The Town of Abingdon Fire Department uses the KEYSECURE master key security system to control the KNOX-BOX master key. The KEYSECURE master key security system provides accountability with an audit trail giving the date, time and user ID for each key release.
Building entrance keys, access cards and floor plans can be stored in the high-security KNOX-BOX mounted near the building entrance. The KNOX-BOX is purchased by the property owner and is keyed to a single master key controlled by the Town of Abingdon Fire Department.
