At 10:02, Abingdon Fire was alerted to a vehicle accident involving a passenger car and a UPS truck. The UPS truck was stopped at a traffic signal at the intersection of Porterfield Highway and Elementary Drive.
At 05:16, Abingdon Fire was alerted to an accident involving a double tractor trailer at the Southbound Interstate 81 Exit 14 Bridge. The truck had hit the bridge and ended up on its side. The second trailer's rear wheels were hanging off the bridge over Jonesboro Road.

Friday was not a good day to be on the roadways. Abingdon Fire responded to 4 separate vehicle accidents throughout the day. The first accident was in front of Watauga Elementary School at 0800. This accident involved three vehicles that were in the process of turning into the school.
